College Station Utilities has earned the Cybersecurity Accelerator Program designation from the American Public Power Association, recognizing its cybersecurity practices and commitment to maintaining reliable electric service.
The APPA awarded the inaugural designation to 60 public power utilities nationwide. The designation is valid for two years.
“We’re incredibly proud to earn this distinguished designation,” CSU Electric Utility Director Glenn Gavit said. “We go to work every day to ensure safe and reliable service to this community, and it’s nice to see that hard work recognized nationally.”
To qualify for the designation, utilities must demonstrate proficiency in internal controls, cybersecurity governance and training, cybersecurity incident response and cyber risk management. Designees must also demonstrate ongoing capabilities to safeguard critical systems, train staff to recognize and mitigate cyber threats, maintain incident response plans, and sustain long-term security practices.
“Receiving an APPA CAP designation is a great honor and a testament to the work these utilities are doing to protect their critical assets from ever-evolving cyber threats,” said Fred Christie, chair of APPA’s CAP Review Panel and chief information officer at Easton Utilities in Maryland. “These designees have distinguished themselves as committed to protecting their utilities and the U.S. electric grid for the benefit of their communities.”
