Telecommunicator

 

The College Station Police Department Communications Division is comprised of:

  • 21 Public Safety Telecommunicators
  • 3 Shift Supervisors
  • 1 Communications Manager

Like those we serve, we’re in operation 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. All of our personnel are, as required by law, certified and licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) as Telecommunicators. In recognition of this certification, the city provides certification pay for Intermediate, Advanced and Master level certifications.

We are also a Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Accredited (CALEA) communications center, and  were the first in Texas and one of only 67 in the nation. Through ongoing training, a thorough Quality Management Reporting process, and a public impact survey process unique to our agency, we strive to uphold the values and accomplish the goals of the department.

$5,000 HIRING BONUS for candidates with 2+ YEARS of prior experience in Public Safety Telecommunications. Candidates will receive $2,500 at time of hire and $2,500 after 6 months of service.

The expected duration of the application process is 60-90 days. Those successfully completing the selection process will be placed on an eligibility list for six months. After six months, the applicant must reapply. Applicants who fail to successfully complete any portion of the selection process shall be notified in writing by the Human Resources Department. This notification will include the eligibility date to reapply which will be no sooner than 30 days from the rejection date.

Internship Opportunities

The College Station Police Department offers several different internship opportunities during Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters for students from Texas A&M, Blinn, Sam Houston State, and Prairie View A&M. Internship positions are restricted to those students seeking academic credit for the semester. Prospective internship candidates must receive academic approval and credit to be considered for placement with the College Station Police Department Internship Program.

Each prospective intern candidate will complete an application and hiring process prior to beginning the internship. Each step must be completed before moving forward in the process. This will include the following steps:

  • Submitted applications will be reviewed and candidates will be notified if they will move forward for the initial oral interview
  • Initial Oral Interview
  • Personal History Statement (PHS) submission
  • Background investigation conducted by Police Department personnel
  • Fingerprint Submission
  • Final Oral Interview
  • Drug screening
  • Submit (3) original academic contracts to Human Resources
