News & Updates

  • Please join Planning & Development Services for the Building and Development Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. the 1st Thursday of each month to discuss various topics throughout the year. These meetings help provide us the opportunity to communicate what our staff are currently focusing on, as well as allowing you the opportunity to ask questions and to provide input on important topics.

Check back here the week before the meeting and we’ll post specific topics of discussion for the meeting. Coffee and pastries will be provided. The next meeting: TBD.

  • Staff has developed a proposed amendment to the UDO to add an Impervious Cover requirement to address drainage issues that may occur with lot-by-lot redevelopment. You can find the proposed ordinance redlines along with a brief summary here.

  • NEW! The 10-year Comprehensive Plan Evaluation & Appraisal Report was accepted by City Council at their October 8, 2020 meeting. This is part of The Next 10 initiative, a major effort to consider recent growth, current trends, best practices, and to define updates to the City's policies to guide the next 10 years. The report is the culmination of 16 months of review and analysis by city staff and the Comprehensive Plan Evaluation Committee, along with multiple rounds of community and stakeholder input. The report recommends changes and updates to the Comprehensive Plan. City Staff are now launching the plan update process. Formal updates to the Comprehensive Plan are anticipated in 2021 and city staff will host additional public engagement opportunities in the coming months. All amendments to the Comprehensive Plan will go through the public hearing process at future meetings of the Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council. You can stay up to date with the Comprehensive Plan Update by joining The Next 10 email list

  • Through discussions during the public input phase of the Restricted Occupancy Overlay (ROO) ordinance development, city staff learned that there are substantial concerns regarding the city’s current definition of “related” and how it affects the determination of a “family.” We are pausing the development of the proposed ROO to allow staff and the City Council an opportunity to consider alternative definitions of “related” and “family.” Once the city has new definitions in place, we will continue the development of the ROO

  • NEW! Neighborhood Conservation Overlay (NCO) Process Handbook. - A Neighborhood Conservation Overlay district allows property owners the option to choose specific, physical restrictions to conserve the unique character of their subdivision. This handbook serves as an application guide for residents who are pursuing the NCO and a policy guide for staff. For more information, please visit our Publications page.
