Police Internship Opportunities

The College Station Police Department offers several internship opportunities during the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters for students from Texas A&M, Blinn, Sam Houston State, and Prairie View A&M. Internship positions are limited to students who are currently enrolled in school and receiving academic credit for the internship. Prospective candidates must obtain academic approval from their institution to be considered for placement in the College Station Police Department Internship Program.

Application Process

 

Each prospective intern candidate will complete an application and hiring process prior to beginning the internship. Each step must be completed before moving forward in the process.

For this semester, only one application is required for all internship opportunities, and applicants may indicate their preferred internship areas within the application.

The hiring process will include the following steps::

  • Submitted applications will be reviewed and candidates will be notified if they will move forward for the initial oral interview
  • Initial Oral Interview
  • Personal History Statement (PHS) submission
  • Background investigation conducted by Police Department personnel
  • Fingerprint Submission
  • Final Oral Interview
  • Drug screening
  • Submit (3) original academic contracts to Human Resources

Internship Opportunities Positions:

Administration (Research)


The Research Intern is a qualified undergraduate or graduate student (criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or other related field) with an interest in learning about the Police Department as it relates to analysis of various areas within the agency.  The intern will assist in researching, compiling, analyzing, and reporting on various resources gained through departmental operations. The position reports to the Administrative Services Lieutenant.

Crime Scene Unit


The Crime Scene Unit Intern is a qualified undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Forensic Investigative Science with an interest in learning about the criminal justice system and the police department. The goal of the internship is to provide the student a meaningful internship experience in the functions and work of crime scene investigation from the perspective of the Crime Scene Unit within the Criminal Investigation Division.
 
The Crime Scene Unit Intern will be exposed to work in Crime Scene Processing such as latent fingerprint processing, DNA collection, photography, crime scene processing, evidence collection, digital evidence collection, and more. The Crime Scene Intern performs a variety of administrative and operational duties to include responding with Crime Scene Investigators to scenes, data entry, digital imaging, clerical tasks, and assisting staff with daily routine operations of the Crime Scene Unit. The position reports to the Forensic Tech Supervisor.

Crime Victim Services


The Crime Victim Services Intern is a qualified undergraduate or graduate student (criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or other related field) with an interest in learning about all areas of the Police Department as it relates to victims and witnesses to criminal activity.  The goal of the Victim Services Program is to support and assist victims and witnesses of violent crimes that occur within the College Station Police Department’s jurisdiction, ensuring the rights and needs of the victims and/or witnesses are met. 

The Crime Victim Services Intern will assist in providing victims with referrals to applicable community resources, assist with public presentations (police academy, schools, etc.), communicate and work with detectives and patrol officers, and other needed tasks.  The position reports to the Department’s Crime Victim Services Coordinator.

Criminal Investigations (General)


The Criminal Investigation (General) Intern is a qualified undergraduate or graduate student (criminal justice, psychology, sociology, forensics, or other related field) with an interest in learning about the criminal justice system and the police department. The goal of the internship is to provide the student a meaningful internship experience in the functions and work of law enforcement from the perspective of the Criminal Investigation Division.
 
The Criminal Investigation (General) Intern assists with a variety of administrative and operational duties as developed and assigned by the CID Commander, to include case follow-up, contacting victims & witnesses, writing police reports, reviewing transcripts, and assisting detectives. The position reports to the Division’s Volunteer and Intern Coordinator.

Public Safety GIS Services


The Public Safety GIS Intern is a qualified undergraduate or graduate student (majoring in Geography, Urban Planning, or other similar degree) with an interest in learning about the development of Public Safety GIS data.  Key tasks include creating and maintaining credible spatial data; performing data quality control & assurance; creating useful maps and web maps; and problem-solving & innovation with a focus on end-user needs. The end goals of the internship are to provide the intern with a meaningful experience in the field of GIS and to learn how GIS relates to Public Safety. The position reports to the Department’s GIS Analyst.
