The College Station Police Department Communications Division is comprised of:

• 21 Public Safety Telecommunicators
• 3 Shift Supervisors
• 1 Dispatch Assistant
• 1 Communications Manager

Like those we serve, we're in operation 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

All of our personnel are, as a requirement of law, certified and licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as Telecommunicators.

We are also a CALEA (Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement) Accredited communications center. We were the first accredited communications center in the state of Texas and one of only 67 in the nation.

Through constant ongoing training, a thorough Quality Management Reporting process and a public impact survey process unique to our agency, we endeavor to uphold the values and accomplish the goals of the Department.

More than responding to emergencies, we take a proactive approach to public safety. We have a Public Education committee that is responsible for the delivery of presentations to civic groups, school classrooms, special events, homeowners associations, and others. Explaining what it is we do, how we do it, and most importantly, what's expected of you in the event you might need to call 9-1-1.

The Uniformed Patrol Division is the largest single deployment of personnel within the department, accounting for 91 officers, 13 sergeants, and 3 lieutenants. Patrol officers are currently assigned to either a 12 or 10 hour shift, with overlap during shift change as well as peak call periods. 

They are responsible for responding to calls for service from citizens and visitors within our city 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Each year, the College Station Police Department responds to thousands of calls for service, the vast majority of which are handled by the men and women of the Uniformed Patrol Division.

Once an officer is licensed by the State of Texas, they complete an in-depth Field Training Program where they gain experience and continue to learn. This Field Training Program is comprised of three five-week “phases” where the officer assumes more responsibility as they progress. Only upon successful completion of this training program are they released to work on their own and are assigned to a patrol shift.

Officers are assigned to a specific geographic beat and work with other units within the department to address issues that affect the quality of life for our citizens and our visitors. Through these partnerships within the department, our personnel is better equipped to build and maintain effective partnerships within the community. It is through this combined Police-Citizen effort that we can have a significant impact on the overall quality of life for all of us. 

The Traffic Unit is part of the Uniformed Patrol Division and falls under the command of the Field Operations Bureau. The sergeant and officers assigned to this unit operate on 2019 Harley Davidson Road King motorcycles year-round.

The safe movement of traffic throughout the city is one of the city council's top priorities. As the city's population continues to increase, traffic-related problems will continue to be of utmost importance to the citizens of this community as well as the College Station Police Department.

With this in mind, the Traffic Unit is doing its part to provide quality traffic-related services to the citizens of this community. We have adopted a goal of "reducing the number of crashes within our city, and those that we cannot prevent, we strive to reduce the severity of them". This is accomplished by maintaining a "highly visible" presence while actively enforcing traffic violations, especially those that are considered hazardous in nature.

Duties of the Traffic Unit

• Enforce state law and local ordinances
• Enforce traffic violations at high crash locations
• Provide traffic enforcement in school zones during applicable time periods
• Work problem traffic areas that are identified by citizen's complaints and from within the department
• Provide police escorts for motorcades
• Complete collision reconstruction and investigation on serious injury and/or fatal traffic crashes
• Attend neighborhood meetings and provide Public Service Announcements
• Assist Day Shift Patrol in working minor crashes throughout the day
• When required, provide backup to patrol units and function as a patrol unit

In 2013, the Field Operations Bureau implemented a full-time unit to cover the entertainment and tourism sections of the city: the College Station Tourism and Entertainment Policing (CSTEP) Unit. In the past, Uniformed Patrol utilized a bicycle unit in a part-time capacity assigned in pairs to patrol shifts. To respond to a growing need to respond to calls for service in the Northgate area, an entertainment district unit was created to ensure the safety of Northgate patrons and visitors.

This unit allows a more proactive approach with our residents and tourists in the Northgate District while ensuring adequate coverage to keep our late-night entertainment venues safe. The unit of nine officers is supervised by a Sergeant, and each member of the entertainment unit is assigned a police mountain bike as their primary means of transportation. In addition to the bike, each pair of officers is assigned a patrol car to use when not policing by bicycle.

CSTEP also works within the community at events such as safety expos, bicycle safety presentations, school educational efforts, and training other police & fire/EMS departments in bicycle operations.

Each officer was trained in tourism-oriented policing to work proactively with our community. Through our relationship with St. Mary's Church in Northgate, their generous staff agreed to enter into a partnership with the College Station Police Department by providing our CSTEP Unit office space in the section of town where they work.

CSTEP is under the immediate supervision of Sergeant Tristen Lopez.

The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) strives to provide the highest quality investigative support to the department and citizens of College Station through follow-up on reported crimes. The division consists of 20 investigators, 4 sergeants, crime victim advocate, crime scene supervisor, 2 crime scene techs, secretary, crime analyst, and 2 police assistants. Additionally, CID personnel is assisted by a long-standing volunteer and internship program.

Personnel interview suspects and witnesses, analyze information, and compile comprehensive cases presented in court after consultation with local prosecutors. They work closely with other units within the department to effectively respond to criminal activity within the city and meet regularly with investigators from other agencies to address regional crime patterns.

The personnel assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division undergo advanced training in areas related to criminal investigation, interview and interrogation, search and seizure, and courtroom preparation. When a large scale incident occurs within the City of College Station, the men and women of the Criminal Investigations Division are ready to respond, support, and determine what has occurred.
