The Southwood Community Center is located within Brian Bachmann Community Park and offers a wide variety of programming for all ages and abilities. When not occupied with programming, Southwood is available to rent for your next family reunion, homeowners association meeting, birthday party, or any other event that requires an ideal facility in a perfect location. While our building is a modest 4,700 square feet with a meeting and party room, you have easy access to a premiere skate park, sparkling swimming pool, and well-groomed athletic park.

    YOUTH PROGRAMS
    TAEKWON-DO • REGISTRATION: DEC. 11-FIRST CLASS DAY
    The class teaches physical and mental training for self-defense, health, and recreation. Learn principles and values to be a better person, athlete, and martial artist: become a champion. Instructor Jose Aponte has 28 years of uninterrupted training and experience in ITF taekwondo and is a sixth-degree black belt from the International Taekwondo Federation. He is an active member of the official ITF taekwondo organization in the United States, with experience and participation in international championships and as a team trainer. We won't have class on Jan 20.

    AGGIELAND FLY FISHERS
    Are you interested in fly fishing, tying, and conservation? Join the Aggieland Fly Fishers for a free monthly education session taught by certified casting instructors. All skill levels are welcome. The Aggieland Fly Fishers Club meeting follows each session from 6:30-8 p.m. and is open to the public.

    Memberships are for ages 55 and older and can be used for senior programming at the Meyer Senior and Community Center, Southwood Community Center, and the Lincoln Recreation Center.  Memberships can be purchased in person at the facilities or by calling 979.764.2670 and are good for one calendar year from the date of purchase. Programs marked "membership" are free to those with a facility membership.

    BEGINNING LINE DANCE  

    The fun workout is filled with energizing routines set to fabulous music and is designed to teach beginners the steps and terminology of line dancing.

    ADVANCED BEGINNER LINE DANCE 
    The class is designed for beginners ready to move to the next level of line dancing with a fun, upbeat workout that introduces new choreography and step patterns.

    The class is specially designed to encourage healthy lifestyle practices. Exercises accommodate all abilities and build strength, balance, and endurance.

    BEGINNER YOGA 
    Beginner Yoga is a gentle, foundational yoga class featuring slow-paced stretching and simple breathing exercises. Learn relaxation techniques and beginner-level poses that inspire you to build your own practice and become comfortable with yoga. All levels are welcome, whether you are a seasoned yogi or a newcomer. Please bring a mat.

    The group collaborates with the Parks and Recreation Department to develop programs, events, and activities to serve seniors. Visitors are welcome.

    QUILTING BASICS • RSVP BY OCT. 15
    The six-week program offers individuals with little to no experience in quilting the chance to learn and practice machine quilting techniques. The covered skills include fabric selection, rotary cutting, piecing, quilting, binding, and more. Specialized quilting tools will be provided. Participants can choose to use the provided fabric or purchase their own for completing quilted projects based on traditional pieced quilt block patterns. Completed projects will encompass hot pads, placemats, and a multi-block design suitable for use as a table runner or centerpiece/wall hanging. Participants are required to bring sewing machines in good working condition and basic sewing supplies like thread, scissors, pins, etc. Space is limited. There will be no class on Nov. 22. RSVP to participate by Oct. 15 by calling 979.764.6371.

    LINE DANCE PARTY
    Showcase the dances you've learned in the Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate I, and Intermediate II Line Dancing classes and learn new dances from our three instructors. Bring your favorite dish and enjoy a potluck lunch after a morning full of dancing. Please note that there will be no Beginning Line Dance or Intermediate Line Dancing II classes before the party.

    SENIORS NIGHT OUT: DANCING & GAMES

    THE ABC’S & D’S OF MEDICARE
    Are you weary of the numerous commercials and mailings that only serve to bewilder you further? Join us to grasp the fundamental aspects of Medicare in an environment without pressure or sales tactics. If you're uncertain about enrollment timing or methods, your available choices, and the process of selecting suitable options for your needs, this is the ideal venue for you. We provide straightforward information devoid of unnecessary details. A Q&A session will follow the meeting.

    ONLY AVAILABLE FOR RENTALS ON TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS THROUGHOUT 2023.

    Fees are per hour with a $210 deposit, 2-hour minimum.

    RENTAL DETAILS
    Rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis and will not be held without proper documentation and fees. Reservations can be made by calling 979.764.6351 or by visiting the Southwood Community Center, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Cash, credit card or check accepted. Checks should be made payable to “City of College Station.”


    DEPOSITS
    A security deposit is required for rentals. Portions or all of the deposit will be forfeited if damage, extra maintenance, or extraordinary cleanup occurs as a result of rental. Deposits will be refunded on the following conditions: (1) terms of your rental have been met, (2) facilities are left in good condition, or (3) cancellation procedures have been followed.

    CANCELLATION & REFUNDS
    Cancellation refunds more than 10 days: If the rental is cancelled, in writing, at least ten (10) days in advance of the originally scheduled date, a full refund of fees and deposits, including security deposit, will be returned to customer.
     
    Cancellation refunds less than 10 days: If the rental is cancelled, in writing, less than ten (10) days but more than 48 hours in advance of the originally scheduled date, deposits, including security deposits, will be forfeited by the customer in favor of the City.
     
    Cancellation refunds less than 48 hours: If the rental is cancelled, in writing, less than 48 hours in advance of the originally scheduled date, all fees and deposits, including security deposits, will be forfeited by the customer in favor of the City.
     
    Cancellation due to inclement weather: At the sole discretion of the City, if the event cannot be held or rescheduled due to inclement weather, fees and deposits, including security deposit shall be refunded to customer.
     
    Deposit refund post event: If the facility is left to standard and required keys (if applicable) are returned within 24 hours, the customer's deposit will be refunded. 

    All refunds are processed within 30 days of request by check. No cash refunds will be issued.
