We offer a variety of senior programming for ages 55+ at three facilities within College Station. The Lincoln Recreation Center, Meyer Senior and Community Center, and the Southwood Community Center serve as a gathering space to visit and socialize, enjoy a cup of coffee or participate in fun activities such as line dancing, arts and crafts, bridge, 42 dominoes, computer club and more.

    PROGRAMS

    FITNESS CENTER
    Use the treadmill or elliptical in the fitness room or get your steps in by walking indoors in the gym or outdoors under a covered pavilion. The fitness center is equipped with cardio machines, a weight-training circuit, single-station machines and a complete range of free-weight equipment including benches, barbells and dumbbells. Participants must be a registered senior participant.

    TABLE GAMES

    Enjoy a variety of board games, cards, dominoes, and spades.

    BEGINNING LINE DANCE WORKSHOP
    Workshop is designed to teach beginners the steps and terminology of line dancing.

    A healthy, well-balanced lunch is served daily. Enjoy with approved client intake form.

    FOREVERSIZE
    This class is specifically designed to encourage individuals to adopt healthy lifestyle practices through nutrition tips and exercising. Exercises include toning, stretching, strength building, and cardio workouts.

    HEALTH EDUCATION
    Participants will learn healthy strategies to maintaining and increasing functional capacity, maintaining or improving self-care, and stimulating one's social environment by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

    FUN EVENING WITH DANCING & GAMES
    Join us for an evening of dancing and games. Dance to the oldies from the 60s to the 80s, swing, line dance, or boogie. Dominoes and card games will also be available. Refreshments will be served.

    AGE OF ELEGANCE: BLACK & WHITE GALA

    SENIOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE
    The committee’s purpose is to address the needs of older adults living in College Station and offers program and activity suggestions to the College Station Parks and Recreation Department. Members must be 55+ and current residents of College Station. Visitors are welcome to attend meetings.

    ADULT COLORING CLASS
    Join us with your book, colors, markers or pencils. Coloring is a great way to relieve stress and anxiety, and improve motor skills. It’s a hobby that can be taken with you wherever you go.

    Learn basic steps and terminology with instructor Sue Engbrock. Tap shoes are recommended but not required. The beginner class is from 1-1:30 p.m. and advanced class is from 2-2:30 p.m.

    Learn how to draw pictures and other media with colored pencils from Ann Walton, an award-winning and certified Texas Art Teacher.

    Learn how to make basic earrings, bracelets and necklaces or repair broken jewelry. Our instructors Joe, Linda and Betty will offer expertise and guidance. You are asked to bring your own beads.

    CHRONIC DISEASE SELF-MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP • REGISTRATION ENDS SEPT. 27
    Self-management workshops complement clinical care and are recommended by the Centers for Disease Control. This non-pharma, six-week workshop by Texas A&M Center for Population Health & Aging is for anyone living with diabetes and wanting to manage risk factors such as obesity, family history of diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance, or physical inactivity. Topics include monitoring diabetes, preventing low blood sugar, preventing complications, planning sick days, skin and foot care, meal planning and physical activity. Space is limited.     EXPLORING HISTORY LUNCHEONS • REGISTRATION REQUIRED
    College Station’s Historic Preservation Committee and Parks and Recreation Department present monthly lectures over our community’s history. Reservations are required and are due the Friday before the luncheon. Call 979.764.6371 or email kpeterson@cstx.gov to reserve your spot. The lecture is free to attend and lunch is $7 per person. No luncheon in December.

Memberships

Memberships can be used for senior programming at the Lincoln Recreation Center, Meyer Senior and Community Center and the Southwood Community Center. Memberships are good for one calendar year from the date of purchase. Programs marked “membership” above are free to those with a facility membership.
