Until recently, the Brazos Valley did not have an all-access playground for people of all abilities, despite research suggesting that about 25% of the people in the seven-county Brazos Valley region live with a disability. But thanks to a unique community initiative, a wonderful project called the Fun for All Playground is underway.

The project is a collaborative effort of the City of College Station and area Lions, Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs. Six years ago, these clubs came together around a central idea of constructing an inclusive playground for individuals with limited means and disabilities, and the idea of a Fun for All Playground was born. The most impressive aspect is that the generosity of local donors, families and community business leaders is funding the project.

The Fun for All Playground is designed to serve various ability levels and incorporates educational aspects to spark imaginations. It’s a park where children of all abilities can play, families can join in the fun, and adults of all ages with physical or limiting abilities can enjoy the outdoors.

Because of the size and cost of the $3.5 million initiative, the Fun for All Playground Steering Committee decided to build it in three phases.

PHASE I - Completed August 2019
Fenced area along with a large splash pad, multiple swing units, and a large climbing play area.

PHASE II - Completed December 2020
1/3-size Carolyn and John David Crow Stadium (a multi-sport athletic field with synthetic turf), restrooms, shower facilities, a sensory maze, wee-go-rounds, and musical play area.

PHASE III - Design & Fundraising in Progress
Fishing pier, quiet area, and stick forest.
