 | The City of College Station is asking for your assistance in eliminating or reducing aluminum can theft. With a national increase in aluminum costs, there has been a dramatic increase in the amount of aluminum cans stolen off the curb. Money from the sale of curbside commodities returns to the City to pay for other recycling programs which include: cell phone recycling, battery recycling, small electronics recycling, household hazardous waste recycling events, etc | You can help by placing recycling out at 8:00 am, not the night before as cans are more likely to be taken if they are out overnight. If you do see someone other than Texas Commercial Waste taking aluminum cans, please report it to one of the following: City of College Station Public Works Department 764-3690 (option 0), call Code Enforcement with the vehicle description and license plate at 764-6363, or on-line by clicking here. If ticketed, individuals caught stealing curbside recycling can receive a fine up to $500. | Recyclables set out for collection become City property. Theft of recyclables may be prosecuted under the Penal Code. (City of College Station Ordinance No. 2147) Report Aluminum Can Theft |

CASH FOR TRASH College Station residents who help preserve our natural resources by recycling curbside have a chance to win $250 cash every month. The Cash for Trash contest was created to encourage people to consume less, recycle more, do a better job of separating the trash from recyclables, and to have a deeper understanding of what they throw away. The City of College Station and Texas Commercial Waste hope that the Cash for Trash contest will increase the participation and the amount of materials recycled in the community through the curbside program. | |
To receive more information about the Cash for Trash contest or on how to recycle in the curbside program, call the City of College Station Public Works Department at (979) 764-3690. |

USED MOTOR OIL & FILTERS
| Recycling is now the only proper and legal method of disposal for used motor oil and filters. These items are banned from the landfill, so you cannot place them in the garbage cart or dumpster. Qualities that make motor oil a fine lubricant also make it ideal for recycling. Motor oil does not wear out; it just gets dirty. Impurities are removed from used oil by re-refining. |
Used motor oil and filters can be taken to be recycled at the Used Oil and Filter Recycling Center located at the Public Services Center at 2613 Texas Avenue South (behind the Police Department). There is also a site at the Rock Prairie Road landfill. Disposal at these sites is free. The Public Works site is open 24 hours. There are also many local businesses that will accept used oil and filters from citizens. Some of them charge a small fee to accept the filters. For more information on the nearest recycling drop-off for used oil and filters, please call Public Works at (979) 764-3690 or see the "Don't Dump It!" Brochure. Back to top.
