Candidate filing for city council special election begins Dec. 10

The candidate filing period for the special election to fill the vacant Place-4 seat on the College Station City Council will begin after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Earlier that day, the city council will meet to order the Tuesday, Jan. 28 special election.

Councilwoman Elianor Vessali, who was elected to the Place-4 seat in November 2018, on Friday announced her intention to seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. Congressional Dist. 17 seat held by U.S. Rep. Bill Flores. Vessali also announced her immediate resignation from the council.

Candidate filing period: Dec. 10-19

Early voting period Jan. 13-24

Special Election Day: Jan. 28

Recommended Runoff Election Day (if needed): March 10

The unexpired term for Place-4 runs through November 2021, when the seat will be on the ballot for a full three-year term.
