    Eastgate Neighborhood Sidewalk Safety Improvements

    The City of College Station is designing and constructing a sidewalk connection between Lincoln Avenue and Thomas Park as identified as a need in the Eastgate Neighborhood Plan and the Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenways Master Plan.

    This sidewalk will be constructed on one side of the following streets within the right-of-way:

        Nunn Street from Lincoln Avenue to Walton Drive;
        Walton Drive from Nunn Street to Puryear Drive;
        Puryear Drive North from Walton Drive to James Pkwy.

    To determine the side of the street the sidewalk will be placed the following are being considered:

        1. Potential tree disturbance or tree removal and
        2. Utility conflicts.

    The goal is to choose the side of each street with the least amount of conflicts and disturbance to the existing area.

    Mitchell and Morgan Civil Engineering Firm performed a preliminary route analysis and Plant People, LLC performed a tree survey. The City has reviewed conflicts and multiple route options. Based on this information, the City is proposing the following location for the sidewalk on each street:

        Nunn Street – Northeast side,
        Walton Drive – Northwest side,
        Puryear Drive – Northeast side.

    See a map of the preferred route.

    The width of the sidewalk and the location in relation to the curb will be determined through the design process.

    A public meeting was held on Monday, June 24th to share the information above and receive input.

    For those unable to attend, please provide any comments on the preferred route by Tuesday, July 9th to Jason Schubert at 979-764-6221 or [email protected].

    Lick Creek Greenway Trail
    The Lick Creek Greenway Trail is a paved trail about three miles in length between Westfield Park and Lick Creek Park. It connects residential neighborhoods, parks and schools. Click here to view the map.

    A trailhead is located at Creek View Park and parking is available at Creek View Elementary after school hours. To get to the greenway trail follow along Eagle, Longmire and Barron Road using the bike lanes and sidewalks to the intersection of SH6 and Barron Road. The accessible trail is 10 feet wide and meanders through a natural setting for three miles. It includes an underpass at Midtown Drive and William D. Fitch Parkway (SH 40) so users don’t have to cross at the roadway. The trail connector follows Pebble Creek Parkway to Lick Creek Park with buffered bike lanes and sidewalks. At Royal Adelade Drive it reverts back to a 10 foot wide side path along Pebble Creek Parkway and continues to Lick Creek Park. Parking is also available at Lick Creek Park.

    In April, the parking lot and trailhead were completed on Midtown Drive near the electrical substation to make the beautiful trail even more accessible. The new amenity includes 12 standard parking spaces and one handicap spot. Click here to view the map.

    Background

    The Lick Creek Trail project was adopted as a concept in 2002 as a part of the Bikeway and Pedestrian Master Plan (now the Bicycle, Pedestrian and Greenways Master Plan). The project was then prioritized for funding by a Hike and Bike Task Force and adopted by the City Council on November 23, 2004, as a high priority. About $4.4 million dollars were allocated through the 2008 bond for implementation. The trail was completed in the fall of 2016.
