Legislative Program

Last item for navigation
The 88th Texas Legislative Session is scheduled from Jan. 10 through May 29. The Texas House and Senate will undertake critical issues including the State’s budget, electric and groundwater resources, and many other significant issues impacting local governments.

The City of College Station takes an active role in tracking legislation and engaging with our elected representatives. On Jan. 12, the city council adopted a 2023 Legislative Program that directs the city manager to act on the city's priorities. The legislative efforts are intended to advocate for College Station's residents and businesses' best interests.

The number of city-related bills as a percentage of the total bills filed rises each session. In 2021, more than 2,000 bills or resolutions were filed that would have affected Texas cities in some way. The Legislative Program highlights the city's position on the importance of home rule authority and local control, protecting groundwater resources, and municipal finances.
