Legislative Program

Last item for navigation
The 87th Texas Legislative Session is scheduled from Jan. 12 through May 31. The Texas House and Senate will undertake critical issues – including the state's budget – during the uncertain and logistically challenging time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Texas Legislature makes significant decisions impacting cities, and the City of College Station takes an active role in tracking legislation and engaging with our elected representatives. On Dec. 10, the city council adopted a 2021 Legislative Program that directs the city manager to act on the city's priorities. The legislative efforts are intended to advocate for College Station's residents and businesses' best interests.

The number of city-related bills as a percentage of the total bills filed rises each session. In 2019, more than 2,000 bills or resolutions were filed that would have affected Texas cities in some way. The Legislative Program highlights the city's position on the importance of home rule authority and local control, managing growth and development, and municipal finances.
