The Southwood Community Center is located within Brian Bachmann Community Park and offers a wide variety of programming for all ages and abilities. When not occupied with programming, Southwood is available to rent for your next family reunion, homeowners association meeting, birthday party, or any other event that requires an ideal facility in a perfect location. While our building is a modest 4,700 square feet with a meeting and party room, you have easy access to a premiere skate park, sparkling swimming pool, and well-groomed athletic park.

FALL SCHEDULE

    YOUTH PROGRAMS
    CREATIVE CIRCLE • REGISTRATION: AUG. 2-SEPT. 6
    Explore our wonderful world through short stories and activities specially designed for preschoolers and their caretakers. No class on Nov. 23.

    Ages 4-6 • $25 • Tue. • Sept. 7-Nov. 30 • 9:30-10:30 a.m.

    CPR, FIRST AID & AED CERTIFICATION • REGISTRATION: AUG. 2-SEPT. 8
    The course helps you recognize emergencies and equips you to handle various first aid, breathing, and cardiac situations for all ages. The instructor-led classroom sessions meet OSHA/workplace requirements. If you pass the course, you’ll receive a digital certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED that’s valid for two years.

    PEERS FOR ADOLESCENTS • REGISTRATION: AUG. 16-SEPT. 10
    The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®) is world-renowned for providing evidence-based social skills treatment for adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, or other social and behavioral disorders. First developed at UCLA by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson, PEERS® is a parent/caregiver-assisted social skills intervention for youth with social challenges. Each group session teaches adolescents essential social skills and allows them to practice during socialization activities such as playing sports, games, etc. PEERS for Adolescents is led by Avocation Therapy’s Fiona Allen, a certified therapeutic recreation specialist and PEERS provider. To register, complete the PEERS for Adolescents Questionnaire. A staff member will contact you for payment.

    BABYSITTER TRAINING & PEDIATRIC CPR • REGISTRATION: AUG. 2-SEPT. 29
    Learn to supervise children and infants safely and responsibly. After completion, participants are certified in American Red Cross Babysitter Training with Pediatric First Aid/CPR and Basic Water Rescue. Participants receive a link to the online American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Manual.

    ADULT PROGRAMS
    SHENG ZHEN MEDITATION IN MOTION • REGISTRATION: AUG. 2-FIRST CLASS DAY
    Sheng Zhen Meditation in Motion is a meditative art that includes relaxing and flowing movements and meditation in stillness. The class is for those who want to experience a state of deep relaxation that allows for effortless movement in balance, agility, and flexibility. The instructor introduces you to meditative forms that train the body to relax, discipline the mind to stay focused and calm the emotions for peace. The class is designed for people of all ages and health and is taught by Mai Lisette Templin/Templin Living Arts LLC. No class Nov. 23.

    Memberships may be used for senior programming at the Southwood Community Center, Meyer Senior and Community Center, and the Lincoln Recreation Center. Memberships are good for one calendar year from the date of purchase. Programs marked “membership” are free with a senior membership.

    BEGINNING LINE DANCE WORKSHOP 
    The workshop is designed to teach beginners the steps and terminology of line dancing.

    FOREVERSIZE

    The class is specially designed to encourage healthy lifestyle practices. Exercises accommodate all abilities and focus on building strength, balance, and endurance.

    ALL AGES WELCOME
    BOCCIA BALL • REGISTRATION: AUG. 2-FIRST CLASS DAY
    Boccia Ball is a Paralympic sport designed for people with cerebral palsy but is appropriate for people with various disabilities affecting their motor skills. Individuals, teams, or pairs take turns throwing red and blue leather balls to get them close to the white “jack” target ball. Boccia is filled with precision and strategy. The required skills are taught by Avocation Therapy’s Fiona Allen, a certified therapeutic recreation specialist.

    RENTAL DETAILS
    Rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis and will not be held without proper documentation and fees. Reservations can be made by calling 979.764.6351 or by visiting the Southwood Community Center, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Cash, credit card or check accepted. Checks should be made payable to “City of College Station.”


    DEPOSITS
    A security deposit is required for rentals. Portions or all of the deposit will be forfeited if damage, extra maintenance, or extraordinary cleanup occurs as a result of rental. Deposits will be refunded on the following conditions: (1) terms of your rental have been met, (2) facilities are left in good condition, or (3) cancellation procedures have been followed.

    CANCELLATION & REFUNDS
    Customers must cancel three days prior to the rental date to be eligible for a refund. If a cancellation is made fewer than three days prior to rental date, deposits will be forfeited. Refunds are processed within 30 days of request by check. No cash refunds will be issued.
