Posted on 02/09/2023
The City of College Station has named Colin Killian as director of public communications, City Manager Bryan Woods said Friday. Killian had served as interim director since former director Jay Socol retired in May.

Killian oversees media and public relations, marketing, and the city's website and cable television channel. He served 12 years as public communications manager under Socol, developing an award-winning blog that has been cited for excellence in two national marketing books.

“Colin brings an incredible amount of experience and expertise to this position,” Woods said. “He’s a leader in our organization and a trusted advisor in the community. I’m thrilled to have him in this role.”

Before joining the city staff in 2010, Killian served 23 years (1987-2010) as associate media relations director for Texas A&M Athletics. He has also worked as an editor and reporter for the Lewisville News and Corpus Christi Caller-Times.

"I'm extremely humbled to have the opportunity to serve as the city's communications director," Killian said. "After living here for 35 years, I'm passionate about our community and its future. I'm also thrilled to work with an outstanding team of creative and talented professionals dedicated to providing exceptional services to residents and visitors."

A native of Hobbs, N.M., Killian graduated from Texas Tech in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in journalism/political science. He and his wife, Jennifer, have a 21-year-old son, Cole.
