Candidate filing period begins Monday for three city council seats, mayor

The filing period for candidates for College Station mayor and city council Places 1 and 2 starts Monday and ends at 5 p.m. on Aug. 22. For the special election to fill Place 5, the filing period closes at 6 p.m. on Aug. 25.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Candidates may pick up an application packet at the City Secretary's Office at College Station City Hall during regular business hours or email City Secretary Tanya Smith for assistance.

Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old on the first day of the term to be served, a U.S. citizen, a qualified Texas voter, and a College Station resident for at least one year before Election Day.

Election information, including the calendar, voter registration, and links to candidate documentation after they file, is available at cstx.gov/elections.

GENERAL ELECTION

Mayor
Mayor Karl Mooney is finishing his second consecutive term and is ineligible to run again. The winner of the mayor race will serve a four-year term that ends in November 2026.

Place-1
Councilman Bob Brick is finishing his second consecutive term and is ineligible to run again. The winner of the Place-1 race will serve a four-year term that ends in November 2026.

Place-2
Councilman John Crompton is finishing a full three-year term and will not run for re-election. The winner of the Place-2 race will serve a four-year term that ends in November 2026.


SPECIAL ELECTION

Place-5
Councilman John Nichols was elected to a four-year term in a run-off election in December 2020 but has indicated he will run for mayor. The winner of the Place-5 race will serve the rest of Nichols' term through November 2024.
