FRANCIS DRIVE REHABILITATION PROJECT

Francis Drive serves as an important connector in the Eastgate neighborhood. As part of the City of College Station's commitment to serve existing neighborhoods like Eastgate, the Capital Improvement Citizen Advisory Committee has identified the reconstruction of Francis Drive as a priority project.

The city will be reconstructing Francis Drive from Walton Drive to Shady Drive. The project will reconstruct the street as a concrete roadway with bike lanes west of Munson Avenue. An improved sidewalk will be constructed along the south side of the roadway. Storm drainage, water, and sanitary sewer improvements will also be made along the corridor.

Construction is anticipated to extend from June 2020 to August 2021. The first phase of construction will begin at Walton Drive near College Hills Elementary School. Traffic will be restricted to one way in the construction zone.

TRAVEL ALERT

Francis Drive will be closed to westbound traffic from Munson Avenue to Walton Drive beginning Thursday, June 16. One-way traffic will continue to flow eastbound from Walton toward Munson. The closure will be in place for about nine months.

The work includes replacing the roadway with concrete pavement, utility improvements, and widening the sidewalk. The first section to be replaced begins near College Hills Elementary School to take advantage of reduced summer traffic. The second section will be from Munson Avenue to Shady Lane. The overall project is expected to complete by the end of 2021.
