AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR TRAINING • REGISTRATION ENDS FEB. 26
Participants learn how to teach American Red Cross lifeguarding, lifeguard blended learning, aquatic attraction lifeguarding (water ≤ 3 feet), shallow water lifeguarding, waterpark skills, CPR/AED for professional rescuers and health care providers, administering emergency oxygen, and blood-borne pathogens training courses and modules. Once registered, you must complete an online component before the first day of class.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· At least 17 years old on or before the last day of the instructor course.
· Certified in lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR/AED.
· Completed the lifeguarding instructor online session, which consists of American Red Cross and lifeguard instructor course orientations and the pre-course exam.
· Successfully completed the in-water pre-course session.

Looking for a great summer job or challenging career? Get lifeguard certified! Through videos, group discussion, and hands-on practice, you will learn patron rescue, surveillance skills, first aid, and CPR/AED. Upon successful completion, participants will receive CPR/AED and lifeguarding certifications good for two years. Participants must attend each class during their session at the listed times and be prepared to enter the water. Candidates must pass written and practical exams to receive certifications. Visit
redcrossstore.org to download a lifeguard manual or purchase the required books. City of College Station lifeguards must be at least 16 years old.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Complete seven hours of online training before first session day.
· Be able to swim 300 yards continuously in the following order with no time requirement: 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing (to the side or front) and a stabilizing, propellant kick; 100 yards of breaststroke using a pull, breath, kick and glide sequence; and 100 yards of either the front crawl, breaststroke or combination.
· Be able to swim 20 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke (starting in the water), surface dive 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point while maintaining two hands on the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps; within 1 minute and 40 seconds.
· Be able to tread in deep water without using hands for two minutes.
· Complete the above prerequisites to continue the class.
RECERTIFICATION: $85 fee. Must provide proof of an ARC certification to participate. Recertification candidates must attend the Friday and Sunday classes. Candidates have the option to attend Saturday morning for retraining in CPR/AED/First Aid.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION • REGISTRATION ENDS THE MONDAY BEFORE EACH SESSION
Become certified to give water safety presentations and teach children and adults how to swim. Participants must attend each class during the designated times. The course has no makeup days. Be prepared to enter the water each day. Participants need to complete an online orientation before the first class, which will be emailed once they register. The course fee is $150. Free manuals can be downloaded and must be brought to each class: “Water Safety Instructor” and “Swimming and Water Safety.” Once registered, an email will be sent to candidate with additional information and required materials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· 16 years old on or before last class day.
· Complete six hours of online training before first session day.
· Pass a pre-course swimming skills test (Red Cross Level 4: front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke, and butterfly).
· Be able to tread water for one minute and float on your back for one minute.
