Energy Back II Rebate

Last item for navigation

During summer months, air conditioning is most often the largest consumer of energy. What if you could upgrade to a more efficient air condition system, save energy, reduce your utility bill and get money in the process?

College Station Utilities offers cash rebates for whole system central air conditioning replacements with a 16 SEER or better rating. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and is the means by which air conditioning systems are rated for efficiency. The higher the SEER value, the more efficiently the system operates.

Contact your air conditioning professional or call College Station Utilities Energy Department at 979-764-6274 for more information.

If you have recently purchased a 16 SEER or better air conditioning system, download the Energy Back II Rebate Application Form (PDF).

No matter what type of air conditioning unit you have, annual servicing of your unit by a trained professional is one of the least expensive and most effective things that you can do to ensure that your unit is operating properly and at its peak efficiency.

  • Changing your return air filter on a monthly basis is a must. Only one-eighth inch of dust allowed to accumulate on your coils can reduce the efficiency of your unit by 10 percent or more.

  • It is also very important to keep your outside condensing unit clean and free of grass clippings and debris to avoid any limitation of air to the unit.

  • If you have an older unit, you may want to consider replacing it with a more efficient model. Air conditioning efficiencies are based on the unit's Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio or SEER value. The higher the SEER value, the more efficient the unit.

  • The government mandated as of 2006 that no units under 13 SEER be manufactured.

  • Each increase in SEER value increases the efficiency of the system by approximately 10 percent. Replacement of an older 13 SEER system with a 16 SEER system would drastically decrease your consumption and thereby your cooling costs.
