Parks Guide

Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventure, interactive science, or active play, we have it all for ages 3-18! Our goal is to provide exciting experiences through supervised, structured recreation in a safe and welcoming environment. Qualified instructors are carefully selected to ensure that your child has a fun time and learns the skills presented. 

Register today at rectrac.cstx.gov or visit Stephen C. Beachy Central Park Office, located at 1000 Krenek Tap Road in College Station, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. All camps require advance registration. No residency restrictions.


FULL DAY CAMP
Full-day camps offer ages 6-15 a variety of daily activities, including outdoor recreation, performing and creative arts, character and team-building activities, local and out-of-town field trips and more! Lunch is provided, but campers are asked to bring a morning and afternoon snack. Each family needs to attend a parent orientation on April 26, May 3 or 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Recreation Center.

MINI CAMPS
An array of Mini Camps is offered for a variety of ages. Qualified instructors are carefully selected to ensure your child has fun and learns the presented skills. Before the camper’s first registered camp, each family will be asked to pick-up a minicamp packet at Stephen C. Beachy Central Park during regular business hours beginning May 23.

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE ART CAMP
Look at each other from different perspectives and study cubism and some of the finest artists. Students will learn to draw faces from a cubistic point of view. The class will create a mural of cubistic self-portraits to be displayed in our community. The mural will encourage the community to observe others from all perspectives. Our life lesson through art will be not to judge others by just one facet. There will be an unveiling ceremony for parents to attend.

ABRACADABRA
Discover the science behind magic tricks! Optical illusions, sleight-of-hand tricks, misdirection and chemical reactions will arm students with the skills to fascinate friends of all ages. Hocus pocus and prepare to focus on fun and excitement as students dis“spell” the mystery behind the magic!

ADD HOT WATER: INSTANT COMEDY
Are you ready to laugh? Explore the world of theater through improvisation. If you have seen and enjoyed “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and wondered how much fun it would be, wonder no more! Let the Brazos Valley Troupe’s Oxymorons and the Kings & Queens of Clean-Cut Comedy show you how to use your clever and creative side with colossal comedic results!

BASKETBALL/AGILITY
Basketball speed, agility, strength and endurance training with a unique, individual-focused, goal-oriented program that develops and enhances physical and mental performance. BUILDERS Using LEGO® DUPLO 
A parent and child class for little builders to learn interesting facts about real world objects and animals in interactive lessons. We will explore counting, patterning, spatial awareness and fine motor skills. Each week will focus on a different letter and will include lots of time for building, learning, and exploration. A parent must attend with each child.

CHEER CAMP
Show us your spirit and join us for a basic introduction to cheerleading basics. We'll explore jumps, arm motions, basic tumbling, cheers, and learn brief dance routines.

CRAZY CRITTER CAMP
Looking for all critter fans and animal lovers! Join us as we encounter the science of living things. Explore the characteristics that classify each organism into categories of reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds, and insects and learn the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates. Campers will also enjoy a safe and friendly animal encounters as they learn about the food chain and discover a treasure chest full of animal facts. You’ll even get to take home your own caterpillar and watch it metamorphose into a beautiful butterfly.

CREATING A WRITING LIFE
Writers will find their way first by understanding the importance of carrying a writer's notebook. They will experience everything from generating ideas to get the words flowing to discovering the elements of all good stories, including character, conflict, action, setting, and more. With the use of mentor texts, writers will get craft instruction and learn to bring techniques and skills of storytelling to the page, including dialogue, character development, narrative arc, writing scenes, and telling details. The session will end with an authors' celebration highlighting our favorite pieces of writing. You’ll need to bring a writer’s notebook.

DESIGN AND BUILD COMPUTER
Have you always wanted to create your own game? Learn how to make games on the PC and Xbox using a simple visual programming language. No prior programming or design experience needed. Hands-on teaching from a web designer with more than 15 years of experience. You can expect three hours a day of instruction with plenty of time for breaks and creative techtivities. Finish the week with your very own app.

DRAMA KIDS: MAKE THEM LAUGH
Milton Berle once said, “Laughter is an instant vacation.” Learn the art of comedy and clowning. In addition to a wide range of our zany drama activities, campers will learn and rehearse special clown activities that will be performed for you at the end of camp Big Show. Drama Kids Camp is perfect for new actors wanting to discover their dramatic side, as well as those students wishing to continue to develop acting and public speaking skills and confidence. Campers need to bring
a snack and drink.

DRAMA KIDS: ONCE UPON A TIME
Explore your favorite characters from story books around the world using the art of masks and movements. Craft your own masks and combine them with movement to develop characters from their imagination. Drama Kids Camp is perfect for new actors wanting to discover their dramatic side, as well as those students wishing to continue to develop acting and public speaking skills and confidence. All will have a magical time. Campers need to bring a snack and drink.

DRAMA KIDS: SUPERHERO
Find your inner superhero during with non-stop, action-packed fun for all! Creativity is sure to “take flight” as campers create their own superhero characters, imaginative superpowers, superhero logo, masks, accessories, and adventures with other superheroes! Each camper will learn acting basics centered on super hero themes and be challenged to use their own creative thinking to act in and solve fun adventures. Discover your superhero adventure with us! Campers need to bring a snack and drink.

FIT 4 LIFE by Summit Youth Club
Learn how to move well and make healthy choices through fun and games. Campers will perform functional movements that improve body awareness and sports performance. During hands-on activities, students will explore the importance of making healthy choices while sampling nutritious foods. We will have a blast learning how to become Fit 4 Life!

HARRY POTTER MAGIC
Calling all wizards, witches, and muggles! Campers who have previously attended our Hogwarts camp will enjoy lots of new activities blended in with year one witchcraft for new campers. Join us for an adventure of the most magical type. Apprentices will be sorted into houses, select their own magic wands, make potions, learn how to duel, play a game of Quidditch and meet several magical animals. A great escape into the magical world of Harry Potter based on the principles of science. Come dressed as your favorite character or turn into a wizard when you get to camp.

A fun and informative introduction to designing and fashioning leather crafted and bead jewelry.

JUST CLOWNING AROUND BALLOON ART CAMP 
Have fun and learn how to amuse and amaze your friends, neighbors and family through clown style entertainment and amusement. Twisting balloons, tricks, juggling, skits and bits, puppets, and more fun things.

KITCHEN CHEMISTRY
A yummy look into science and fun foods. Make homemade ice cream, cotton candy, rock candy and secret fizzy and fun concoctions while we discover the secrets of Kitchen Chemistry. A delicious way to understand the interaction of ingredients.

LAUNCHING YOUR BLOG
From the technical nuts and bolts to writing your first short, engaging posts, this camp addresses the basic components for launching a successful blog. We will also provide insider tips on identifying your platform, building an audience, and cover successful blog post styles. By the end of the session, each participant will have 3-6 blog posts ready to publish, as well as a wealth of resources to further their blog’s reach. You’ll need to bring a laptop and writer's notebook.

MIME PRAISE DANCE
Learn the concepts and techniques of portraying a character through body movement (miming) while performing to gospel or inspirational music. The camp will also include how to apply miming makeup, improve and probing sessions. Camp participants will receive a performing t-shirt and make up. A showcase of performances will conclude the camp.

MINING & CRAFTING: CRAFTING YOUR WORLD
Everybody loves mining, crafting and creating in MineCraft. This fun camp takes LEGO® Bricks, a background in STEM, children’s natural creativity, and some inspiration from the popular game to build on a whole week of learning fun. From Pigs, Mushrooms and Chickens to Mine Carts, Zombies, and Skeletons, we’ll create a Mining and Crafting world, the Bricks 4 Kidz Way!

MUSICAL MATHEMATICS
This camp promises to build on geometric and algebraic concepts that will leave the students with an alternative perspective. We will engage in activities that not only challenge your children mathematically but musically! Additionally, students will be given a frame for understanding the interconnectedness that exists between music and mathematics, and the activities will be based on lessons including some of their favorite songs and artists.

OUTDOOR WILDERNESS SURVIVAL DAY CAMP
Join us for a week-long outdoor survival adventure day camp! Each day we will teach outdoor survival skills and play games to increase each camper’s awareness of the outdoor. Campers should bring a water bottle, snack and arrive with sunscreen on each day. All activities are conducted in a safe environment.

Day 1: Explore Indian and pioneer culture. Learn to find and build shelter, discover ways to keep from getting lost in the wilderness, and search for and identify edible and medicinal wild plants.
Day 2: Discover how to find and purify water for drinking, make a fire by friction, and how to track animals and make Indian hunting tools.
Day 3: Learn how to make rope, survival baskets, bows and arrows, and primitive animal traps and snares. Also, learn how to throw spears. 
Day 4: Learn outdoor woodsmen skills to enable us to better observe wildlife.  Practice our new fire building skills and how to light a campfire with only one match.
Day 5: Make soap and toothpaste out of native plants and learn the techniques needed for campfire cooking.  The week ends with a final review and graduation when each camper receives their own Indian arrowhead.

POCKET BRICK MONSTERS
Use LEGO® bricks to build amazing worlds of fun in a variety of exciting themes such as today's Pocket Brick Monsters camp. Kids love catching all their favorite Pokemon characters, and will enjoy building them out of LEGO® Bricks. Based on the popular card and video game, this creative camp will feature LEGO® mosaics, 3D LEGO® Builds, motorized LEGO projects, and more at Bricks 4 Kidz. From building 3D models of Pocket Brick Monsters villains to LEGO mosaics of your favorite characters, to motorized LEGO® contraptions that the Monster Catchers might need to catch them all, your child will be engaged in STEM-enriched activities and making new LEGO®-loving friends.

POETRY 
Writing poetry can be a gateway to a more observant writing life. Writers will read poetry and consider what kinds of poems they might study in groups and use as mentors. The highly crafted nature of poetry will allow writers to analyze structure and figurative language effectively and to try similar techniques. Writers will collect ideas in their notebooks, plan, draft, and revise multiple poems. This camp will end with a celebration sharing an anthology of poetry worthy of the exciting work accomplished as writers.

PORTRAIT OF A MASTERPIECE
Introduction to the composition of faces using visual cues and measurements to see how all faces are constructed in the same way. Students will study famous self-portraits and complete their own to take home, as well as create a class self-portrait mural to be displayed in our community. The mural will depict how each face may appear different, yet each is a masterpiece. Our life lesson through art will demonstrate that we are all created equally and perfectly and that to be our own masterpiece; we must be who we truly are. There will be an unveiling ceremony for parents to attend.

SIZZLIN’ SCIENCE
Cool off indoors as we delve into lots of fun science experiments. Campers will confirm or debunk common myths as we investigate all of the branches of the world of science. Can a gumdrop dome support the weight of a textbook? Can you enclose yourself in a giant bubble? Can an object be levitated in the air? All this and much more will be investigated as we discover all the aspects of the world of science!

SPY KIDS LEGO ADVENTURE
Learn the science behind cool spy gadgets and build take-home spy cars out of Legos. Begin your secret agent training by navigating through a laser maze and progress to construction spy helicopters, rockets, and cars. We will follow the clues laid out to defeat Dr. Evil while creating and having fun with Legos.

STAR WARS
Your Jedi will manipulate the unseen forces of magnetism and static electricity to levitate and move objects, create galactic goo, engage in lightsaber duels, and battle the Death Star! Experience the Jedi arts first hand while discovering the wonders of science.

SUPERHERO ACADEMY: JUSTICE HEROES
Use LEGO® bricks to build amazing worlds of fun in a variety of exciting themes such as today's Superhero camp. Our super hero camp is inspired by fun DC characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Build 3D LEGO® models, to superhero themed LEGO® mosaics, to motorized LEGO® devices the heroes might need in their adventures, your child will be engaged in STEM-enriched activities and making new LEGO-loving friends. Campers need to bring a snack and drink.

SUMMER THEATER MUSICAL PRODUCTION
Musical Theater is a truly unique art form. Explore interweaving of three major performance styles – acting, singing, and dancing. Students will receive quality training and experience through age-appropriate activities that encourage self-expression, nurture self-esteem and challenge the imagination. At the end of each week, campers will get to participate in a community event to showcase their hard work.

THE COLOR OF LIFE
Campers will learn to see the many different colors they may have never noticed before in the world around them. They will study how different colors induce different emotions and learn how to express themselves through color and by identifying with nature. The class will create a mural to be displayed in our community. The mural will portray the students’ innermost selves as a forest of colors. Our life lesson through art will teach students how to identify with each other and the world around them. There will be an unveiling ceremony for parents to attend.

THE GAMES OF THEATER
Are you looking to be more involved and immersion into the world of theater and acting? Enjoy various theater games, introduction to acting, and monologue and scene work.
