TAX RATE FOR MAINTENANCE & OPERATIONS

THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE.  

PROPERTY TAXES

The property tax rate as of October 1, 2012 for the City of College Station is set at 43.0687¢ per $100 of assessed valuation. Property taxes fund the General Fund and are used to make payments on the City’s Debt Service Fund. The breakdown of the tax rate is as follows:

Debt Service: 0.195635 45.4%
General Fund: 0.235052 54.6%
Total $0.430687 100%

The 43.0687¢ rate reflects the City’s portion of the tax rate and does not include taxes collected for College Station Independent School District or Brazos County. A break out of the tax rate for all taxing entities is as follows from the Brazos County Appraisal District:

CSISD 1.33503 59.1%

The City property tax rate is among the lowest in the state for Cities with a population between 50,000 and 100,000. The table below is a comparison of tax rates for similarly sized Texas cities, as well as benchmark cities that the City of College Station uses for comparison purposes.

FRANCHISE TAXES

Incorporated businesses in Texas are subject to the state franchise tax. Corporations pay either $2.50 per $1,000 in taxable capital, or a 4.5% tax on earned surplus, whichever amount is greater.

 

HOTEL OCCUPANCY TAXES


Chapter 1, General Provisions, Section 11 of the Code of Ordinances authorizes the City of College Station to levy a Hotel Occupancy Tax equal to 7% of the consideration paid by the occupant of any hotel where the cost of occupancy is at the rate of $2.00 or more per day.
