ABOUT FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Properly using fire extinguishers can prevent small fires from becoming large fires, and can also save lives and property. They do no good, however, if they are not used. It is recommended to practice using fire extinguishers so that if they are ever needed in an actual fire, the person operating it will feel comfortable doing so.

ABOUT CSFD FIRE EXTINGUISHER TRAINING

CSFD offers a two-part program that includes a presentation of fire safety/how to operate fire extinguishers, followed by hands-on training where participants can put out a small fire. The length of the training depends on the number of participants. In general, the training (including the classroom portion) takes about an hour to complete.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older to operate the fire extinguisher trainer. Participants under the age of 18 will need written permission from their legal guardian.

Fire extinguisher training requires a minimum of 10 attendees.

It is best if trainings take place at the facility of the requesting organization. In order to use the fire extinguisher, the organization must have a flat surface on which to place the pan. It is also preferable if the location of the outdoor training is near an electrical outlet. Fire extinguisher trainings can take place at fire stations 3, 5, and 6 if the business location is not able to be used (space is limited to 25 people).

The fire extinguisher training may have to be cancelled or rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Fire extinguisher training can be scheduled during the following times:
Monday-Friday: 9 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1-4 p.m.

It is recommended that fire extinguisher training requests be submitted at least four weeks in advance, although requests can be made at any time.

Submitting a request for a fire extinguisher training does not guarantee that one of the times you request can be filled.

After your request has been submitted, a member of the fire department will contact you to schedule a time for your fire extinguisher training. Please allow five business days for processing your request, although it is likely that your request will be processed within 48 hours.
