The City of College Station’s Recycling Rewards and Green Seminars programs won top honors for Public Education and Community Outreach on Friday at the Texas Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America’s annual conference in Garland.
“This award shows the dedication and leadership that (Recycling Coordinator) Heather Qualls provides to our recycling program, and the talent and creativity in our Public Communications Department,” Public Works Director Chuck Gilman said.
Through the Recycle Rewards program, College Station residents who participate in the city’s curbside recycling are eligible for valuable discounts at partnering restaurants and cafés. More than 1,000 Recycle Rewards cards have been issued since the program began in January.
Free Green Seminars are conducted for residents throughout the year on topics such as energy and water conservation, sustainability, recycling, composting, litter prevention, beautification and hazardous waste.
