Firehouse Subs grant to help CSFD Bike Medics program
Posted Date: 2/13/2018 3:45 PM
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation recently awarded a grant to the College Station Fire Department that will be used to purchase six specially-equipped bicycles for the fire department’s Bike Medic program.

The bikes help provide faster response and better mobility for emergency medical services at concerts and other special events. The grant is valued at nearly $25,000.

“This program will help us provide medical care to our residents, students and visitors in areas where most conventional means of transportation are not safe or possible,” CSFD Firefighter/Paramedic Stanley Stephenson said. “The bikes allow quicker access to high-pedestrian traffic areas such as concerts, special events, and Northgate.”

“We are extremely thankful that the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has partnered with our department for this program,” CSFD Chief Jonathan McMahan said. “They continue to invest in our community and others across the nation. With our bike medics positioned at special events and in high-traffic service areas, we can respond to calls for service in seconds instead of minutes. This grant helps us provide a safer environment and continue to meet the health and safety needs of our citizens and visitors.”

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was founded in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina as a proactive way to assist first responders. Since its inception, the non-profit has granted more than $31 million to hometown heroes in 46 states, Puerto Rico and Canada. It’s contributed more than $2.2 million in Texas.
