The College Station Parks and Recreation Department has developed Park Maintenance Standards that assist in guiding the maintenance for City parks. The maintenance standards were developed at the request of the College Station City Council to support the City Council's Strategic Issue #5 of the Council Vision Statement #4 (Cultural Arts and Recreation Opportunities). Parks and Recreation Department staff developed the Parks Maintenance Standards with input from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
The Park Maintenance Standards were developed in 2001 and approved by City Council in March of 2001. The use of the standards was initiated in fiscal year 2002, which began October 1, 2001.
The Parks Maintenance Standards cover eight categories of park structures:
1. Athletic Facilities: Competitive Fields
2. Playgrounds
3. Pavilions/Shelter Facilities
4. Tennis Courts
5. Basketball Courts
6. Sand Volleyball Courts
7. Ponds
8. Parks: General Standards
Maintenance Standards Specifications were also developed in the process.
The specifications follow the categories and subcategories of the Park Maintenance Standards and specify what needs to be done in order to meet the standards.
Maintenance Standards Surveys were developed in order to determine the progress in meeting Parks Maintenance Standards. The surveys are conducted quarterly by the Parks Operations Division Supervisors.
With the Parks Maintenance Standards, the College Station Parks and Recreation Department can better maintain and enhance the quality and the safety of City parks and facilities.
