Rainwater Harvesting Information

Collecting rainwater in barrels is a great way to water your landscape, while saving on your water bill. As an added benefit, now when you buy your rain barrel, you no longer have to pay sales tax! The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts has made rain barrels exempt from sales tax because they are used for water conservation. To qualify for the exemption, purchasers will need to have a Texas Sales and Use Tax Exemption Certification Form (Form 01-339) when making the purchase (click the highlighted text to download the certificate, page 2 of the PDF).
