Randie the Recycling Raccoon
The City of College Station is asking for your assistance in eliminating or reducing aluminum can theft. With a national increase in aluminum costs, there has been a dramatic increase in the amount of aluminum cans stolen off the curb. Money from the sale of curbside commodities returns to the City to pay for other recycling programs which include: cell phone recycling, battery recycling, small electronics recycling, household hazardous waste recycling events, etc
You can help by placing recycling out at 8:00 am, not the night before as cans are more likely to be taken if they are out overnight. If you do see someone other than Texas Commercial Waste taking aluminum cans, please report it to one of the following: City of College Station Recycling Coordinator at 764-6229, call Code Enforcement with the vehicle description and license plate at 764-6363, or on-line by clicking here. If ticketed, individuals caught stealing curbside recycling can receive a fine up to $500.
Recyclables set out for collection become City property. Theft of recyclables may be prosecuted under the Penal Code. (City of College Station Ordinance No. 2147)

Please make sure to use the clear recycling plastic bags that are provided, as other bags will not be collected. CASH FOR TRASH
College Station residents who help preserve our natural resources by recycling curbside have a chance to win $250 cash every month. The Cash for Trash contest was created to encourage people to consume less, recycle more, do a better job of separating the trash from recyclables, and to have a deeper understanding of what they throw away. The City of College Station and Texas Commercial Waste hope that the Cash for Trash contest will increase the participation and the amount of materials recycled in the community through the curbside program. |
